ACES for Angela

AFTER -  CANCER  -  ENCOURAGEMENT  -  SUPPORT

8/2/10 - The biopsy done early last week is inconclusive;
Angie's doctors are supposed to have a conference call today to
determine what the next step in her treatment will be.

The West Mountain Chicken BBQ Fund Raiser held on Saturday (31st)
was a successful event - We thank all who attended and/or participated in any way.
Please visit our Volunteers/Donors & Donations page and we would encourage
all to patronize all those businesses who were so generous with their time,
services, money and goods.  Thank you!
We will announce the final tally of funds collected as soon as possible.

7/26/10 - The Post Star published an in depth story

Three more "hot" spots were discovered after Angie's last tests.  A biopsy on a spot that
was found in one of her lungs was done on Wednesday, July 21st.  An elevated white
blood cell count is also a factor and indicates there is an infection somewhere in her system.
Additional reconstructive surgery that was to take place this week has been postponed
until a diagnosis of the biopsy is known.  Angela, however, continues to maintain a very
upbeat and positive attitude.

Look for upcoming news stories in both The Chronicle and The Post Star this week.

Angie's condition continues to improve--During her latest visit to NYC to her doctors
(last week) Angie was told she could again begin to eat soft foods.  If that goes well
they will remove the stomach feeding tube in a couple of weeks.  A PET scan
will be done soon to determine if Angie is cancer-free.  Marcie Fraser of YNN-News 9
will be doing a piece on Angie and her story which will air in July.

Updated:  2/9/10

Angela (Edmunds) Kilmartin, who lives with her son Zach in Fort Ann, found out she had facial cancer in December 2008.  She underwent the first of four operations January 2009; the others took place in March, November and December.  Angela is the daughter of Doug and Bernie Edmunds, of Glens Falls who live in the house where Angela was raised.  Angie is currently staying with her parents because she needs the help they can offer.

Angie worked at CR Bard for 20 years and as of December 2009 and after a year of being on temporary lay off lost her job.  She also lost her insurance and benefits, and until some of the available help can be restored she is without funds or insurance coverage.

She is scheduled to have three more operations (all to happen on the same day).  She must travel to Beth Israel Hospital in NYC to have them done.  The travel to and from in itself is a great hardship especially since she will only be given 24-hour notice of the operation time and date.  Her last trip there was by train.  The trip is made even more difficult because Angie’s nourishment is a liquid medical food and can only be received into a tube into her stomach.

A group of her friends and family have started a fund-raising committee:  ACES for Angela  (After – Cancer – Encouragement – Support).  All proceeds from planned events will be donated to the bank account established to help Angela.
The account at Glens Falls National Bank is: ACES for ANGELA.
Donations can be sent or dropped off directly to any GFNB branch.

The committee is planning several things to try to help Angela and her family through this
crisis.  The major event - A CHICKEN BARBECUE being held Saturday, July 31, 2010
at West Mountain Ski Center.   Donation Cans are in a variety of business locations
throughout Washington, Warren & Saratoga counties.  They will be monitored on
a regular basis and the proceeds will be deposited into the GFNB account.
Donations can
also be made through PayPal on this web site.

The owner of West Mountain Ski Center (Mike Barbone) and his marketing director are also planning a Tubing Night from 6 to 8 pm on a Sunday in March – that information will be announced as soon as details are nailed down.

This note is to let the community know first hand what Angela’s situation is and ask anyone wishing to help to contact either:  Kathy Piper (893-3357) or Sylvia Sheehan (796-0132)  or
EMAIL at the address shown below.

Angie and her family along with the committee wish to thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation, support and donations.

2/9/10 Update:  Angie was at Beth Israel Hospital for 3 operations done on the same day
on Monday, 2/8.  She went in at approximately 6 a.m. and the doctor called her
mom about 9 p.m. just after Angie was taken out of the operating room.
She will probably be in the hospital for 10 to 12 days.
